UG v UPSA (white) at 2020 GUSA

University of Ghana (UG) won Gold in the Men’s Basketball category at the 2020 Ghana University Sports Association (GUSA) Games this past weekend.

UG hosted the biannual multi sport competition involving 11 public universities in the West Africa nation. While its latest win was largely overshadowed by crowd disturbances, it doesn’t take away UG’s shine as the most dominant force in tertiary basketball this past half decade.

The 2020 Games host beat University of Cape Coast (UCC) 66-63 in the final that had to be continued a day later after the original matchup was stopped with 7:35 minutes left to play in the fourth quarter due to the aforementioned disturbances.

UG trailed 47-51before the game was called off and had enough left in the tank to clinch its third Gold Medal in the competition in a row.

Aside winning GUSA on three straight occasions, UG has won the annual Universities, Polytechnics and Colleges (UPAC) Basketball Championship in four straight years since 2016.

The Guerillas have added two Federation of Africa University Sports (FASU) Games gold medals in the process.

UG’s Female Team beat UCC 56-30 to win the Women’s Division at the 2020 GUSA Games.
