Ocloo

Ghana’s Basketball Fraternity is still reflecting on the life and legacy of legendary Coach Matthias Ocloo who passed away three years ago.

Former players at various levels particularly in Women’s Basketball have talked about the former Ghana National Women’s Team Coach.

A new development that Basketballghana.com can confirm in relation to the celebration of Ocloo’s legacy is an upcoming tournament to honour him.

The Matthias Ocloo Cup is slated to run from March 27 to March 28 at the St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Basic School in Adabraka-a suburb in Ghana’s capital, Accra.

The competition mirrors the standalone tournament played in honour of fellow Ghana Basketball Legend Benjamin Baafi who passed away little over a fortnight after Ocloo’s demise.

The CAP7 Tournament has been played over the past two years at the Lebanon House Court in Tudu with several teams in the Accra Basketball League (ABL) Men’s and Women’s Divisions respectively competing.

Both men influence the creation and running of the ABL and the league’s titles are named after them; the Women’s Division is referred to as the Matthias Ocloo Trophy and the Men’s title is referred to as the Benjamin Baafi Trophy.
