Tema Youth Basketball Club’s custom of introducing the sport of basketball to young individuals and training them continues to hold up.

The team consistently organizes training sessions for free early on Saturdays at Tema’s Community 4 Court to individuals between the age of four and 15 years.

Coach Emmanuel “Rubberman” Quaye leads the program and members of the team join in to take young players through drills and technical areas of the sport.

The sessions are held before “established” players take to the court to work out for various competitions held in Ghana’s capital region.

According to Coach Quaye, the sessions are the team’s way of grooming the next generation of basketball players; Tema is famed for producing household names in Ghana basketball.

Coach Quaye in a previous interview stated he adopted the tradition from former Ghana National Female Basketball Team Coach Matthias Ocloo who passed away three years ago.

Tema Youth is preparing to compete in the 2020 Accra Basketball League (ABL) Men’s Division I campaign. The team finished in fourth place in 2019.
