Abass

Ghanaian-Italian Small Forward Awudu Abass is likely to return to playing competitive basketball later this year with the Italian Basketball League due to commence.

Basketballghana.com can confirm the league’s 2020-2021 season is likely to start in September or October following the cancellation of the 2019-2020 season due to the Corona Virus pandemic.

The 2019-2020 season was cancelled in April as Italy-one of the world’s countries hardest hit by the Virus-has recorded over 20,000 deaths and had been on a six week lockdown.

However, the upcoming season is being targeted to start at a time when it would be safe to have fans at league venues and teams in close proximity.

Abass plays for Germani Brescia and is one of the leaders on the team after playing for Italy at the 2019 FIBA Basketball World Cup in China.

The team ranked third in the 17 team league prior to the league’s cancellation with 14 wins and seven losses; Virtus Bologna and Sassari occupy the first and second spots respectively.

Abass averaged 14.1 points, 4.4 assists and 1.2 steals in 27.8 minutes across 21 games in the league; he has been linked with a move to Bologna.
