Basketballghana.com can confirm Ghana Forward Ben Bentil will have Giorgos Vovoras as Head Coach of Panathinaikos for the upcoming season.

Vovoras has been an Assistant Coach at the Greek club for six years including the past season where he served under veteran American Coach Rick Pitino.

The news was reported by TalkBasket with the arrangement set to be made official next month by club owner by Dimitris Giannakopoulos in a press conference.

The 2019-2020 season was suspended and eventually cancelled due to the effects of COVID 19 and Panathinaikos was named winners of the league ensuring the team’s successful title defence.

Prior to the cancellation, the Athens based team ranked first in the standings with 18 wins and two losses in 20 regular season games. Pitino departed when the league was suspended.

Vovoras inherits a team that has several ex NBA players aside Bentil like Jimmer Fredette and Georgios Papagiannis. However, veteran Point Guard Nick Calathes is set to leave the club.

Bentil played with Dallas Mavericks in the NBA.
