Ghanaian-Canadian International Forward Laeticia Amihere has scored 11 points in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Women’s Basketball Tournament opening round.

Amihere’s University of South Carolina beat Mercer University 79-53 in the first round of the national competition; South Carolina advances to the second round to play Oregon State University on Tuesday, March 23 at 11:00 GMT.

South Carolina is the number one ranked team in the tournament; Mercer ranked 16th while Oregon State ranks eighth. South Carolina ended the regular season with 23 wins and four losses.

6 foot 4 Forward Amihere added eight rebounds, an assist, a block and a steal to her scoring output in 24 minutes off the bench. The red shirt second year player converted five of 11 shot attempts in the contest and scored her sole free throw attempt.

Amihere, whose father is Ghanaian and her mother Ivorian, has represented Canada at various age competitions and is in line to represent the senior team at this year’s Olympics in Tokyo.

She is gained national attention after dunking at age 15 in a game.
