With dwindling numbers in infection cases and relaxing of restrictions, all was set for various sports related events to pop up this year after such events were all but lost in the past year due to the outbreak of COVID 19.

However, the rise in cases and COVID related deaths have rendered event organizers powerless once more as restrictions have returned.

Aside football leagues, various sports events have been put on hold on due to the fallout from the rise in COVID once again including chronic funding challenges and strict adherence to COVID 19 prevention protocols for fans.

The Tema Basketball League for instance was rallying towards a start date in the first quarter this year following the successful organization of a mini tournament and the Universities, Polytechnics and Colleges (UPAC) Basketball Championship in December.

The present situation means league organizers have to halt its progress towards a start date or the league. Last season’s Tema League campaign with Nungua Coldstore as defending champions was cancelled due to COVID.
