Representative of the Lithuania Basketball Federation’s (LBF) visit to Ghana Jonas Vainauskas has stated a national basketball strategy for Ghana is to be based on assessments made during his visit to the country.

The Administrator arrived in Ghana on Tuesday, January 12 and a Press Conference was held earlier today at the Accra Sports Stadium to announce the start of activities outlined in Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).

Vainauskas will lead a team to tour various locations in Ghana assessing coaching, basketball structure and general play from Ghanaian players. The tour commences on Friday, January 14.

The MoU signed between the Ghana Basketball Association (GBBA) and the LBF and International Basketball University (IBU) in December 2021.

Speaking at the Press Conference, Vainauskas stated, “First order of business for me is to assess the state of Ghana basketball in general and on that assessment we will base a national basketball strategy which we will develop with our colleagues at the Ghana Basketball Association and we hope to achieve that we have a full strategy in place by September”.

Lithuania is ranked eighth in the world and is renowned worldwide for its cutting edge fundamental heavy basketball structures in developing players and coaches.
