Basketballghana.com can confirm Russian Basketball teams competing in the Euroleague Championship have been suspended in light of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

Three teams have been affected by the suspension; UNICS Kazan, Zenit St. Petersburg and CSKA Moscow have had their games respectively postponed.

Ghana’s biggest basketball portal gathers should the situation in Ukraine worsen, the team’s would be outright removed from the continental competition and have their games annulled.

Italian side Olimpia Milano was scheduled to compete against UNICS Kazan later tonight prior to the game’s postponement. Ghana Forward Ben Bentil plays for Milano and has been a key figure off the bench in his debut season for the Italian side that has 15 wins and six losses thus far in the regular season.

The ECA Shareholders Executive Board, meeting remotely on Monday, February 28, took the following decisions with regards to the war in Ukraine:

1. To suspend the participation of Russian Federation teams in both the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague (CSKA Moscow, UNICS Kazan, Zenit St Petersburg) and the 7DAYS EuroCup (Lokomotiv Kuban Krasnodar).

2. Euroleague Basketball to continuously monitor the evolution of the situation. Should the situation not evolve in a favorable way, all regular-season games versus Russian teams to be annulled to configure the leagues’ standings.
