Basketballghana.com can report University of Ghana (UG) Men’s Basketball Team Coach Eric Agyapong Ankamah has fingered missed scoring opportunities and unfamiliarity playing in an indoor arena among others as factors behind the team’s poor performance at the 2022 FASU-Federation of African Universities-Games according to Ghanaian Times.

The Games are taking place at the Kenyatta University in Kenya with 40 Universities representing 14 African countries competing in multiple sports disciplines.

UG rolled into Kenya as two times defending champions after bagging gold medals at the 2016 and 2018 editions but lost all games to crash out of the tournament. The 2020 edition was cancelled due to the COVID 19 Pandemic.

The Guerillas lost 64-65 to Kenyatta University and lost 62-69 to University of Johannesburg in the next game in Pool A. The team finished bottom and failed to progress to the semifinals.

Coach Ankamah proceeded to indicate missed shot attempts and unfamiliarity of his young players to the indoor facility cost his side the chance to win games.

The team is expected back in Ghana later this weekend.
