Carlos Dinis has been named head coach of the Angolan national senior men’s basketball team following Moncho Lopez’s completion of a seven contract signed in February, 2015.
The Spanish trainer guided Angola to claim a silver medal at the 2015 AfroBasket Championship held in Tunisia but did not renew his contract.
Dinis’ appointment comes ahead of Angola’s Olympic qualifiers set to begin July 4 where the African silver medalist are scheduled to play against Serbia and Puerto Rico in Serbia’s capital, Belgrade.
Prior to his appointment, he led Angola to win its’ fourth gold medal at the 2015 African Games following an 83-73 win over Egypt.
Fellow African representative Senegal have be drawn in Group B in Manila alongside Turkey and Canad in Manila, Philippines as Tunisia play against Italy an Croatia in Turin in Group C.
