Central University College and Wisconsin University College, two of many young teams that participated in the just ended 2016 Universities, Polytechnics and Colleges (UPAC) Basketball Championship preliminary round, exited winless.

Both teams suffered massive defeats to University of Ghana (UG) and Marshalls University College in Zone G qualifiers. Marshalls and UG sealed qualification to the quarter finals on the back of those huge win margins inflicted on the aforementioned pair.

Reigning GUSA (Ghana Universities Sports Association) Basketball Champions (UG) and reigning PUSAG (Private Universities Students Association Games) Basketball Champions Marshalls beat Wisconsin 52-32 and 51-25 respectively.

Central on other hand lost 35-67 to UG and 26-42 to Marshalls to crash out of the tournament without registering a win. Despite the familiarity theme of the zone-all four teams were drawn in the same zone in last year’s edition- both couldn’t capitalize to make amends for last season’s failure to make it out of the preliminary stage.

UG topped the zone after beating Marshalls 31-29 and secured automatic qualification to the quarter finals of the UPAC Championship. Marshalls however, made the last eight by being the second best placed team among three zones in the Greater Accra and Volta Regional division housed in Zones A, F and G respectively.

The 2016 UPAC Championship is headlined by Rexona, supported by Fanyogo, MTN and CAL Bank in partnership with Basketballghana.com, Y FM, TV3 and Ghana Sports Newspaper.
