The Greater Accra Men’s Division I Basketball League is just a week from commencing at Lebanon House in Tudu. The League which is set to have new kids on the block DC Dynamics make their debut will also have reigning champions Braves of CEPS launch the latest defense to the title they won last season.

However, a step below in the region’s second-tier competition, the Division II, there are quite a number of compelling storylines which will make headlines in the coming weeks when the league originally scheduled to tip off a day after the Division I does, commences.

Within the eight team roster of the league lies the Leopards of Adenta who come into the new season as one of the favorites to make it into Division I. One major reason for optimism is Charles Annan. The Power Forward/ Center will come to the party in May having been recently named Best Basketball Player of the Year at Ghana Technology University College (GTUC-Accra).

His award was merited on the back of strong showings in competitions held earlier in the year including the Universities, Polytechnics and Colleges (UPAC) Basketball Championship and PUSAG (Private Universities Students Association Games) basketball competition.

In what the burly frontcourt player described as “relaxed mentally”, GTUC put up a meek performance in the UPAC Championship and exited the competition in the preliminary round. The story was much different in the PUSAG, when a locked in GTUC side powered through the group stage and Central University to book a spot in the semis.

GTUC’s dream of booking a final spot was dislodged by eventual winners Marshalls University College but bounced back to claim victory against Regent University College in the bronze game.

With more incentive to work harder than before, Annan is surely poised to take Adenta Leopards to the next level.
