Flashlights of New Town atoned for a prior loss to Community 12 by beating the latter 34-31 in the Tema Community Basketball League Week Six round of games that took place over the weekend at the Community 4 Basketball Court.

That close win was followed by Ashaiman Lions easy 59-31 win over Community 2 with the lads from Ashaiman proving a handful for the flatfooted Community 2 side.

After losing 32-36 in the last round, Flashlights revenged that loss with a well orchestrated display in many stretches of the game. The young and energetic Community 12 team pushed back to make matters close in the final minutes of the game.

With 3:45 left, Flashlights held a 34-26 lead as Kingsley Quist and Joseph Boye combined to score with high flying displays including a thundering alley oop but five straight points threatened to wipe out New Town’s lead.

Benefitting from two missed three point attempts late in the game, New Town was able to see the game out and eke a win.

A 16-4 first quarter lead pretty much told the outcome of the tie between Ashaiman Lions and Community 2. Lions blitzed its opponent with three straight conversions from the three point arc from Shooting Guard Elvis Pobi-Siaw.

The unsettled Community 12 side contributed to the big deficit as it committed several turnovers leading to easy points for Lions. Things changed after Elvis, Daniel Amartey and other members of the starting lineup were rested and Community 2 took advantage to reduce the deficit to eight (24-36) at the end of the third quarter.

Checking back in, Pobi-Siaw delivered an eye catching pass for Phillip Armalo to convert from beyond the arc as Ashaiman controlled the remaining minutes in the game to seal the win and entrench itself on top of Group B ahead of Nungua Coldstore.
