Two time winners of Ghana’s National High School Basketball Championship-Sprite Ball Championship- Wesley Girls High School have qualified for the upcoming tournament after making the final game of the Central Regional qualifiers.
The qualifiers took place at the Cape-Coast Stadium where qualified high schools from the zones in the region competed for spots at the main championship set to take place in Accra. The side scaled the challenges of rival teams including Mfantseman Girls Senior High School among others to make it.
Wesley Girls will represent the region alongside reigning national champions Aggrey Memorial Mount Zion High School in the girls division. Aggrey will be making a return to the tournament after winning its second overall national trophy at the ninth edition held in January this year.
Following wins in the second and third editions of the competition, Wesley Girls failed to qualify for the tournament’s past three editions.
In the boys category, Mfantsipim School and Adisadel College will represent Central Region after topping the division. Both schools represented the region at the 2016 Sprite Ball as the former placed second with the latter crashing out at the group stage.
Next year’s edition will be the competition’s tenth anniversary.
