Defending GSP Basketball League Champions Suncity Braves have suffered its maiden loss of the season after falling 11-19 to LIR Royals at the Eusbett Hotel Court in Sunyani. The game was the final fixture honored in Week 9 of the second half of the league.
The shock result halts Braves remarkable run in the league that had the side lead the league standings from the opening week with a default win over University of Energy and Natural Resources (UENR).
However, Braves still lead the standings with 16 points after nine games played and LIR still sit just a spot above bottom ranked Sunyani Technical University (STU) with 12 points. Royals are much closer to the rest of the field after sitting bottom of the league for several weeks.
In other results recorded in an eventful round, UENR beat STU with a jaw dropping 39-9 win in the round’s opening game before Catholic University College, Ghana (CUCG) Saints beat Barracks Scorpions. 37-32.
West Siders lost 12-25 to Desert Rabbits.
