Wisconsin University in action.

Wisconsin International University College has secured its maiden win in the Universities, Polytechnics and Colleges (UPAC) Basketball Championship following a close 27-26 win over Pentecost University College in Zone E.

The Legon-based side fought back from an 18-26 deficit in the fourth quarter to clinch the win and end a horrible run of losses in Ghana’s premier tertiary basketball tournament.

Wisconsin lost all games in the preliminary round in last year’s qualifiers including losses to Marshalls University College and University of Ghana.

The win gives Wisconsin a realistic chance of making the quarters should it beat Central in its final game and Accra Technical University lose against Pentecost University.

On the other hand, the game ended Pentecost University’s quest for a quarterfinal spot as the loss to Wisconsin is the team’s second of the campaign. The worrying part of Pentecost’s play is the huge giveaways it has committed in the final quarter.

The side gave up the lead in its opening game against Central University to lose 24-27. It repeated the abysmal trait against Wisconsin to crash out of the competition.
