Ghana National Fire Service Male Basketball Team has won its first game of the 2017 Accra Basketball League (ABL) Men’s Division I season by beating Tudu Magic 59-52.

The game which took place at Lebanon House Court had Fire beat the home side in its maiden game of the season.Fire’s win was followed by Adenta Leopards 53-50 win over Ghana Navy for the former’s second straight win.

Fire Guard Gilbert Wood was instrumental for his side’s triumph beginning with converting a contested three point shot.

However, Magic ended the first half with a 23-21 lead and continued its scoring ways in the opening minutes of the third quarter courtesy Steven Forster’s scoring outburst.

Fire took a 42-39 lead but lost the lead again after a 7-0 Magic run. Wood delivered two three point shots, stripped Magic Guard Anthony Adade off the ball before delivering a behind the back pass to lead Fire to a 59-52 win.

The second game of the round should have been done and dusted at the end of the first quarter but a late flurry from Ghana Navy had the side lose by three points to Division debutants Adenta Leopards.

Leopards held a 17 point difference courtesy a 46-29 lead at the end of the third quarter.

However, Richard Tetteh and Kojo Ofori’s shots from deep, willed the side to almost sending the game into overtime.

Leopards renowned fast start was evident in this game as the side blitzed through the opening minutes leading 16-9 and 27-12 at the end of the first and second quarters respectively.
