The 2017 Universities, Polytechnics and Colleges (UPAC) Basketball Championship knockout stages are set to take place on April 7 and April 8 at the University of Ghana (UG).

Reigning champions UG headlines what has been dubbed the Group of Death alongside Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), University of Cape-Coast (UCC) and Marshalls University College.

Ahead of the anticipated showdown between Ghana’s top tertiary basketball teams, Basketballghana.com takes a closer look at the main players to look out for on each team.

Maxwell Mod- Power Forward UG
The starting Forward of the reigning UPAC Champions has continued his wonderful streak since last year’s wonderful run that culminated in a Tertiary Player of the Year Award at the 2016 Ghana Basketball Awards. The fourth year top dog had a brilliant showing in the preliminary round as UG topped Zone D.

David Asingar-Power Forward Marshalls University
Marshalls deep roster meant fans saw little of the Nigerian’s array of skills during the team’s winning streak in Zone A in the preliminary round. Coach James Okine has a lot of arsenals on his side he can deploy but the team ticks with Asingar at the heart of it.

George Poku-Pare- Guard KNUST
The only player on this list without national recognition is still one of the best Guards in the field. Possessing quickness and bullish strength, the former Mfantsipim man led KNUST to humiliate Ghana Technology University College (GTUC-Kumasi) 60-4 to place first in Zone G.

Ibrahim Mohammed-Point Guard UCC
Mohammed was nominated in the Male Tertiary Player of the Year category in 2015 in UCC’s bronze medal winning campaign in the Championship. His stock took a hit last year as the Cape-Coast side missed out on a quarterfinal spot. The starting Guard’s stellar play willed his side past nemesis Takoradi Technical University in Zone C.
