2017 Universities, Polytechnics and Colleges (UPAC) Basketball Championship Most Valuable Player Kwame Opoku has described his award as a “surprise” in an exclusive interview with Basketballghana.com.

The Starting Point Guard for the University of Ghana (UG) made this known following UG’s 41-23 win over Marshalls University College in the final game of the Championship; the win clinched UG a second straight title.

“It came as a surprise but am really excite to be given the honour of MVP. I pushed myself and I set my mind right that I was coming to the final… my teammates also motivated me, we encouraged each other so that’s how come I came out that way”.

Opoku’s stellar play through the competition particularly the knockout stages, caught the eye of many fans and technical personnel at the Championship.

The former Presbyterian Boys Senior High School (PRESEC-Legon) Guard is the second UG player to be named MVP in the competition in light of Muhaimin Guba’s win in last season’s competition.
