Lonzo Ball wants to be on the Lakers. His father has made this apparent. That he chose to skip a workout for the Celtics, who have the No. 1 pick, makes it obvious. The Lakers are his dream team, and if he can maneuver himself toward them then he’s going to try to do so.

Ball will be taking the next step to lock himself into Los Angeles on draft night by working out for the Lakers on June 7, according to Shams Charania of The Vertical. If he impresses the Lakers enough, then perhaps it will merely be a matter of time before he hears them call out his name on draft night.

Ball, 19, will meet with the franchise’s front office and coaches and participate in an individual workout.

If Ball does end up on the Lakers, it will create a rather interesting backcourt situation. L.A. already has Jordan Clarkson and D’Angelo Russell. By drafting Ball, the Lakers would either be making it apparent they want to trade one of them or they’ll have to try to find minutes for all three.

Ball has taken every step possible to pick his destination. If the Lakers workout goes well for him, then there shouldn’t be anything standing between him and his dream scenario. However, if Los Angeles passes, then Ball will need a backup plan. Another workout or two might be in his future.
