Versatile Forward Abdelhakim Zouita has made history by becoming the first Moroccan player to be named Most Valuable Player at the FIBA Champions Cup.

He won the prestigious award after leading AS Sale to clinch gold in this year’s competition which ended recently in Tunisia. Host team Etoile Sportive Rades missed out on first place falling to Sale in the final game.

6 foot 7 inch Forward Zouita who can also play Power Forward, was instrumental in his team’s big win at the continental games held in Rades.

He narrowly missed out on averaging 16 points and four assists in eight games in the competition as he registered 15.9 points and 3.9 assists to win the prestigious prize.

By lifting the 2017 Champions Cup, Sale became the first Moroccan team since Maghreb Association Sportive de Fez to do so. Maghreb won the competition in 1998.

The likes of Angolan international and Olympian Point Guard Carlos Morais have won the prize in previous competitions; Wayne Arnold was named 2016 MVP.
