STU (white and red strip) beat UENR 23-8
Kintampo (Blue) v UENR

University of Energy and Natural Resources (UENR) will not feature in the national championship of the 2018 Universities, Polytechnics and Colleges (UPAC) Basketball Championship.

This is down to the team falling behind Sunyani Technical University (STU) in the perking order in this year’s Zone 4 qualifiers.

After beating Catholic University College and Knitampo College of Health, UENR lost 8-23 to Zone 4 Host Sunyani in the decider.

This means UENR will not be present in the UPAC quarterfinals for the first time since its maiden appearance in 2016.

The team has placed first in the zone in the past couple of years to secure qualification to the next stage of Ghana’s most prestigious tertiary basketball competition.

UENR’s failure to make the national competition is a bit surprising considering the team placed fourth in last year’s national championship.

On the other hand, STU return to the quarterfinals for the first time since 2011; this year’s national competition takes place in Accra from April 12-14.
