Ferroviario De Maputo has successfully defended the FIBA Africa Women’s Champions Cup by beating Inter Clube from Angola 91-90 in this year’s Final played at the Cairo Indoor Stadium in Egypt.

Inter Clube’s dynamic duo of Italee Lucas and Astou Traore got ample help from teammates Robyn Parks and Felizarda Jorge who scored 24 points and 11 points in the loss.

Traore scored 18 points while Lucas registered a near triple double with 31 points, nine rebounds and eight assists in 42 minutes.

Maputo Club from Mozambique had four players score in double digits with Sarah Okoge and Odelia Mafanela scoring 22 points apiece.

Traore made three of four free throws late in the game but her miss proved costly as Maputo held on for the win after surviving a Lucas missed three point shot attempt.

Al Ahly beat Sporting Alexandria 88-65 in the all Egyptian matchup to seal third place in the competition while Inter Clube missed out on a sixth continental title.  Ingvild Mucauro from Maputo was named MVP of the Tournament.
