University of Cape Coast (UCC) Men’s Basketball Team has clinched a convincing 60-29 win over University of Mines and Technology (UMaT) in the opening game of the 2020 Universities, Polytechnics and Colleges (UPAC) Zone 2.

UCC is hosting the zonal competition of the seventh edition of Ghana’s biggest tertiary basketball league with qualification to the national stage at stake.

Debrah attempts layup against UMaT

The host team dominated the game from start to finish and held a 37-17 half time lead with heavy scoring production from Guard Benjamin Debrah.

The veteran Shooting Guard/Small Forward scored a host of points on hard drives to the basket as both teams missed three point shots.

Fellow Guard Senyo Yevugah benefitted from UMaT turnovers to score on fast breaks; Small Forward Dennis Dugbennu showed enormous strength inside the paint to bag points and stretch UCC’s lead.

UMaT had impressive performances from Emmanuel Yankey and Adams Mubarak but their efforts weren’t enough to keep their side in the game.

UCC plays defending Takoradi Technical University (TTU) in the most anticipated clash of the competition.

The 2020 UPAC is sponsored by CAL Bank, MTN and Decathlon.
