Knights' Benjamin Omari attempts a layup against Ashaiman

Ashaiman Basketball Academy Assistant Head Coach Sitsofe Kofi has stated the reasons behind his team’s decision to compete in the Accra Basketball League (ABL).

His team made its debut in the ABL Men’s Division II in a game against Spintex Knights at the Prisons Court in Cantonments; Ashaiman lost 51-93 to the loaded Knights teams.

When asked about the motivation(s) behind the team’s decision to compete in this year’s ABL in an interview with Basketballghana.com after the heavy loss, Coach Kofi said:

“As an academy running a program for these boys we were also looking for another avenue, opportunity to also widen our scope in the game of basketball. We figured playing in Division II starting this season would give them much needed exposure so we wanted to have a feel of it and not just compete.”

Ashaiman’s young lads inexperience showed in the debut league game as the team turned the ball over multiple times and missed shots but did get solid production from Curtis Atsagli and Ernest Quayson.
