Ghana Basketball Association Chairman David Adoo Ashong has reiterated his belief that basketball is the second biggest sport in the country.

He made the emphatic statement during the launch of basketball television show “Courtside” on Ghanaian channel Viasat 1 earlier today in the channel’s studios. The show will air on Sundays between 14:00 and 16:00 GMT with the maiden episode set to be shown at the said time on November 13.

The long tenured leader of Ghana’s basketball fraternity expressed his pleasure in the sports growth over the years. He said:

“If you go around the schools, communities… and look at some of the sterling work people like Yaw (Sakyi Afari) have done, it is hugely popular. We believe that it is the second biggest sport in Ghana. I believe the statistics bear me out that basketball is popular certainly amongst the youth that’s a fact”.

He went on the shower praise on Afari, who will host the show and Viasat 1 for making the venture come to fruition saying, “It’s such a groom thing and am glad this is happening now; it feeds into a certain narrative”.

Viasat 1 acquired exclusive rights to telecast NBA games in the country and adding the two hour show will boost the followers of the sport.
